Day 1 - 18th September
18.09.2011 - 18.09.2011 20 °C
You can smell it… Upon disembarking the train, we noticed the train station smelt like a university dorm room. Either that or all of Europe come to Amsterdam for glaucoma treatment. Another thing, is it just me or is everyone moving a little slower than the rest of the continent? Except for the fkn bikes. Big attitudes too. This is really cyclists heaven. The bikers have all the rights. No rules. The cars and peds simply play a firm second fiddle to them. Haven’t seen a car accident all holiday but already seen two bikes hit eachother. Retards.
No Taxi. Our hotel was walking distance from the train station and for this exact reason the taxi driver wouldn’t take us. Might be a 5 minute walk for you, buddy but 15 f'n minutes later and we are still no closer. The canals make navigation a little difficult. One wrong turn costs you 10 minutes... or more! So many dead ends.
Hotel.. Finally got there. The trip to the room seemed longer than the transit from the train station. It would have to be the furthest hotel room in the building and on the highest floor. Are we still in Amsterdam?
Not the best finish. Vic has been a star all holiday. If you have kept up with our travels you would have realised how beautiful some of the places we've stayed have been. All credit goes to Vic. She is a true hunter gatherer on the hotel booking websites. This is comparatively a dive. Made for a group of stoners with no real other agenda. Not for us but it satisfies the most important criteria of them all. Space! We need to do the final pack here. Not her best effort overall. I’m not too phased but she is mad at herself for getting the last booking wrong. No biggie.
Coffee shops. These things are everywhere... as expected. A bit of overindulgence evident. Not sure these guys will have too much memory of their travels. Not sure they care either...
Tappas. Really just stopped for a beer but it quickly turned into a tappas feast. I think we’ll enjoy the food here.
Red Light district. Why is Vic here again? Oh that’s right, she is my fiancée. Chicks in windows showing all they have to offer. Some of their offerings were evidently installed many years after birth. Good for a peep. Some opt for more. Haven't seen anything like it.
